Garbage disposals are a great appliance, but sometimes they can have stinky odors. Here are three quick and easy ways to prevent or eliminate stinky odors from your garbage disposal.
- Use lemon peel. Just throw a quarter of a lemon or the lemon peels in disposal and run disposal as normal. It will quickly kill the stinky odors.
- Take a lesson from elementary science. Use baking Soda and vinegar – in disposal. Pour about a Tbsp of baking soda and vinegar down the drain. Let activate and bubble. Rinse with clean water.
- Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to 2-4 ounces of water. Pour into disposal. That’s it.
Use one of these tricks when you notice the smelly odor coming from your disposal or use one weekly as a preventive to a smelly garbage disposal.
Remember the rubber collar sink baffle traps debris, so make sure to clean that collar. I like to soak it in vinegar or soapy water for a couple of minutes, then wipe inside, giving attention to the folds and creases. I find it’s easy to just throw this in the sink of soapy water and wipe when I’m washing dishes once a week. It prevents build up on the baffle and eliminates a big part of the odor caused by a garbage disposal. Also an anti-microbial baffle helps with odor prevention. Here’s a great one at Amazon.
